Masseria Cuturi awards’ update

Masseria Cuturi awards’ update: Falstaff recently awarded the Primitivo di Manduria Monte Diavoli 2020 and the Primitivo di Manduria Chidro 2021 with respectively 92 and 91 Points.

Primitivo di Manduria:  the flagship wine of Masseria Cuturi.

Monte Diavoli and Chidro represent a selection of Primitivo, aged in wood and in bottle, to enhance complexity and elegance.

What’s in the name?

Monte Diavoli: Monte Diavoli Is a rocky formation that stands isolated in the middle of a vast flat area dominated by the Mediterranean Macchia. In the past it was the place where the Messapi kept the sacred fire of the rites of fertility. Today as then it is a mysterious and fascinating place.

Chidro: The Chidro is an underground river that flows through volcanic tubes underneath the surface of Masseria Cuturi. It ends its run in an estuary that flows into the Ionian Sea.
The encounter of the fresh water and the sea creates a fantastic microenvironment of plants and fish species. The Conca d’oro, whose toponym derives from the fertility of its soils, was a single plot of 100 hectares that extends between the Masseria and the sea.

Masseria Cuturi…since 1881

We are talking about a family, originally from Veneto managing this beautiful estate in Puglia which includes a skilfully renovated farmhouse and many hectares of land. Among the woods, olive trees and vineyards. The Rossi-Chauvenets acquire a reality full of history. The farm, located in Manduria, was founded in 1881 and for centuries belonged to the Schiavoni family. It seems that the origin of Primitivo in the Mandurian land started precisely from Cuturi. Don Tommaso Schiavoni Tafuri married Countess Bianca Sabini of Altamura who brought Primitivo cuttings to these parts. The variety adapted very well to these soils and this climate and thus the famous Apulian wine was born.

view masseria cuturi vineyards

The Conca d’oro, whose toponym derives from the fertility of its soils, rich in water, with the presence of five artesian wells and two natural sources have made this land particularly generous and productive: a true Eden.

The current vineyard is about 40 hectares and is particularly fertile thanks to the organic substance contained in the soils and the water of the Chidro River that flows there.

The winery emphasizes sustainable and organic farming practices to maintain the quality of their wines and preserve the environment. For the wines they use renewable energy, lighter bottles, and corks obtained from renewable raw materials derived from sugar cane.
The vinification of our best grapes today takes place within the Masseria, a few steps from the vineyards that generated them.

This proximity allows us to follow the maturation curve of each single particle with timeliness and precision. The cellar is made up of small tanks to obtain the micro-vinification of each single plot.
We use the aging in wood in moderation to enhance the natural characteristics of our wines. Bottling takes place in the cellar.

2 SOULS, 1 COMPANY

Early in the Sixties Mr. Pierino began producing his own wine starting off a quality trend that remains a key feature of our company nowadays. Pierino’s son and daughter, Claudio and Mariagrazia, are now managing the company in their father’s footsteps.

The Winery is located in Castiglione Tinella, within the Province of Cuneo, between the Lower Langa and the Monferrato Regions. Rolling hills almost completely covered in vineyards are visible as far as the eye can see and make Castiglione Tinella one of the liveliest towns in Italy. The cliffs running down towards the valleys Tinella and Belbo frame the vineyards and the wood patches, creating a unique landscape.

The extension of the vineyards allows our company’s production to cover all types of wines available in the South of Piedmont. Icardi’s style is renowned around the world for its significantly fruity, refined, clean and elegant wines. The balanced flavour of both regular and “more important” wines can be appreciated immediately after production.

“Nothing taken away, nothing added”

This is the. motto of Cantina LaSelva, founded in 1980 by Karl Egger.
Through his vision and work in developing LaSelva, Egger became one of the pioneers of organic farming in Europe. Karl Egger left his homeland, Munich, and moved to the south of Tuscany where he bought 7 hectares of land. Here he began to grow fruit and vegetables following the simple rules of nature: a choice that led him ten years later to give birth to the organic farming association, Naturland.
In 1984 LaSelva became the first Naturland-certified business beyond German borders.

In Maremma

Cantina LaSelva is located in a unique place, nestled in the south of Tuscany and surrounded by untamed nature. The varied landscape ranges from the woods of a regional park to medieval villages, and then on to the sea. These are places where you can discover ancient traditions and enjoy true beauty in every season. Maremma is also the birthplace of Tuscan viticulture, with its origins dating back to the Etruscans and their sophisticated civilisation.

cantina LaSelva view maremma

The microclimate of the Maremma hills has always brought out the best qualities of Sangiovese grapes, which are used to make wines like Morellino di Scansano – known and loved throughout the world. The combination of minerals, lime, marl and limestone – combined with the coastal influence of the Tyrrhenian Sea – form the basis for opulent, soft red wines and for savoury white wines with a strong personality.

Strictly Organic

Even in the winery, they process the grapes without using unnecessary additives. They apply organic concepts and adopt the most advanced technologies in temperature control, fermentation, pumping over and delicate punching down.

Well done!!!!

Wine Spectator awarded Zenato's Lugana and Amarone

GRAND GOLD

zenato cresasso bottle

Made from Corvina Veronese, this single-vineyard designate wine is deeply connected to the land where it is grown.
Its intense, deep ruby red color tinges the glass as its thick, lingering legs slide down the edges.
On the nose delicious and enchanting red fruit, blueberry, and blackberry notes that evolve into intense aromas of black cherry, cooked prune, and jam.
It’s ideal for grilled meats, roast meats, game, and grilled sausage. It also pairs wonderfully with aged cheeses and rich tomato sauces prepared with herbs.

GOLD MEDAL

Lugana San Benedetto

The Zenato Lugana San Benedetto is made from a selection of the best grapes from the eponymous estate. The vineyards are some of the appellation’s most historic and are considered to be among its best.

Rich in personality and with great depth, this wine delivers a wide spectrum of fresh and complex aromas on the nose.

It’s full-bodied and full-flavored in the mouth, with notes that shift from dried apple and pineapple to pear and vanilla. Its long, brilliant finish lingers with delicious results.

lugana santa cristina

Produced with 100 percent Trebbiano di Lugana, this wine brightens up the glass with its straw yellow color.

Its multifaceted nose is aromatic, fresh, and fruity, with notes of grape, peach, citron, grapefruit, and a hint of pineapple, which adds tropical character.

On the palate, the wine is approachable, fresh, and has good minerality.

The second Sansonina red wine, made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc vineyards, is the expression of the enormous potential that the extraordinary terroir of Lake Garda can also express with red varieties.
A Garda red, with its characteristic complexity of the important international varieties involved; easy to drink, fresh, fine and elegant.
Tribute to femininity, even its name evokes the symbol of genesis, the origin of the world and the star that represents the feminine world: “Eve” and “Luna”, creative forces, mystery and inspiration, direct link between the earth and the sk

Decanter World Wine Awards

The jewel of Zenato’s production, this wine is made from a selection of top grapes from Valpolicella Classica grown in Sant’Ambrogio township (Corvina, Rondinella, Oseleta, and Croatina).
The grapes are dried for 4 months and crushing is not carried out until January. Slow fermentation with skin contact follows and then the wine is aged for 36 months in large-format Slavonian casks.
It is then aged in bottle before being released
This is a majestic wine, intense, and ethereal, with notes of bay leaf and distillate-cured cherries.
The impressive balance between all its com-ponents makes it ideal for long-term aging.

SILVER MEDAL

As soon as the dried grapes for the winery’s Amarone have completed fermentation, a top selection of Valpolicella grapes “passes over” (ripassa) the Amarone pomace, thus resulting in a second brief fermentation.
This helps to obtain higher alcohol content, deeper color, and rich flavor and aroma. Af-ter aging in French tonneaux for 18-20 months, the wine is cellared for another 6 months in bottle before release.
The process makes for a refined and concentrated wine, extremely smooth and velvety, with vibrant red fruit aromas.
On the palate, it delivers fruity notes and elegant tannin with hints of chocolate and spice. Ripassa has played a highly important role in the Zenato winery’s evolution over the years.

Discover the “other” Bolgheri….Podere Il Castellaccio: a sip from the past, while looking to the future.

view Il Castellaccio

An historic Estate

The passion of one man marks the beginning of the history of Podere Il Castellaccio. In the 1960s, Luigi Corradini, the maternal grandfather of current owner Alessandro Scappini, found an estate of 18 hectares on the hills of Castagneto Carducci. The area is Bolgheri, a place that was not yet world famous and had nothing to recommend it other than the essence of the land and the potential it had to produce great wine.
To plant his first vineyards Luigi was only able to use grapes that were native to the Chianti and Scansano area. Thus were Pugnitello, Foglia Tonda, Sangiovese planted – just a few hectares, native wine varieties and a small wine cellar. Over the years, the management of the estate gradually transitioned into the hands of his son Roberto.

However, it was only in 2009 that the winery Podere Il Castellaccio was founded by Alessandro Scappini, the third generation in charge of the estate.
Alessandro Scappini, born and raised in Bolgheri, decided indeed to work with a 60 years old family vineyard planted with ancient varieties. In the meantime he also starts growing the signature grapes of the DOC and makes his debut on the market with its first Bolgheri wine with the vintage 2015. His path inside the DOC is completed in the vintage 2018 when his Bolgheri Superiore Il Castellaccio is born and it was released for the first time on the market at the begin of 2021.

Podere Il Castellaccio is situated in Castagneto Carducci, across the seaward side of Segalari Hills, at an altitude of 194 meters a.s.l.
Due to its geographic position, the vineyards enjoy  a Mediterranean climate, with more solar radiations, a  better thermal excursion and a higher ventilation.

The Wines…..Not only Bolgheri

castellaccio's wines

A sip from the past, while looking to the future”
is the catchphrase used by this highly-manicured Bolgheri winery.

The family passion and the expertise added by the winemaker Attilio Pagli have the aim to tell the story of the region through the salvaging of ancient varieties that are inextricably linked to the tradition of Tuscan wine, specifically in the area of Bolgheri.
The older vineyards, occupying more than 2 hectares, are planted with Tuscan natives Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, Foglia Tonda and Pugnitello.

Hospitality

During 2020, thanks to the commitment and the hard work of his wife Enrica, the estate opened their door to the new hotel facilities: nine apartments and one room between the coast and the hill, all designed under the principle of bioarchitecture.

The structure, nestled in the quiet of the woods surrounded by a colour palette, will be an ideal place to let yourself to the nature’s primordial senses and to spend a unique regenerating holiday.

The teak terraces, suspended between the trees, and the roofs with natural grass will grant hours in complete relax to the guests. From this spot, a view is going to lost over the countryside that slopes gently to the sea and the main islands
