Kerin o’Keefe:
“Underbrush, pipe tobacco, leather and blackberry aromas come to the forefront on this full-bodied, classy red.
Enveloping and delicious, the palate shows concentration but is almost weightless at the same time, doling out dried cherry, black plum, cocoa and licorice alongside velvety tannins.
Drink through 2029. “
Monica Larner:
“This wine holds back just a bit in terms of ripeness, and that explains the smooth elegance you get here. This is a special wine.”
Falstaff, Wein Guide Italien 2023. Othmar Kiem, Simon Staffler:
Clear, dense ruby with a slight purple tinge. Clear and intense nose with rich notes of dark currant, elderberry, plus some cardamom and leather. Firm and sturdy on the palate, dark, ripe berry fruit, opens with dense, finely meshed tannin, entwined with sweet texture, showing firm drive on the finish, rich cassis.
ESTATE:
Since the very beginning of the Castello di Bolgheri estate, the philosophy has been to produce wines, focusing on the work in the vineyard and aiming to maintain the expression of the terroir in the cellar.
All the vineyards of the Castello di Bolgheri estate are located next to the homonimous hamlet and the cypress lane and are part of the Bolgheri DOC.
The vines rows are perpendicular to the sea and benefit from the afternoon ventilation during the hot summer days. The soils are predominantly clay and sand rich in pebbles with sub alcanine pH.
