A land of wine since 1363
Historical records of the then “CONTRADA EL PETROSO” confirm the existence of vineyards and the production of wine in these lands, situated near the ancient walls of Montalcino, ever since 1363. (Municipal Archive of Montalcino)
The current company was founded in 1970 by Domenico Berni, nicknamed “DELFO” in Montalcino, a man with a passion for his land and for wine-growing, whose aim was to produce limited quantities of Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino, with full respect for the local wine tradition.
The historic harvest of 1978
This harvest allowed Delfo to produce our company’s first Brunello di Montalcino.
In 1992 Gianni Pignattai, Delfo’s grandson, started working for the firm to help out his grandfather . A few years later, after Delfo passed away, Gianni took over at the helm of the company.
2010: the Riserva is born
After completing his studies in oenology, Gianni’s son Andrea began to help his father along with the rest of the family. This harvest allowed the company to produce its first “Riserva” wine.
