Masseria Cuturi, a historic estate in Puglia, Italy, has been managed by the Rossi-Chauvenet family from Veneto since 1881. The property features a beautifully restored farmhouse and extensive land with woods, olive trees, and vineyards.

The farm, located in Manduria, has a rich history, and it’s believed that the Primitivo grape variety was first introduced to the region here. The story goes that Don Tommaso Schiavoni Tafuri, a previous owner, brought cuttings of the grape to the estate after marrying Countess Bianca Sabini of Altamura. The grape thrived in the local soil and climate, leading to the birth of the famous Apulian wine.

The estate spans 40 hectares, and its vineyards are exceptionally fertile due to the soil’s organic matter and water from the nearby Chidro River.

Masseria Cuturi is committed to sustainability, using organic farming methods to ensure high-quality wines while protecting the environment. This commitment extends to their winemaking process, which incorporates renewable energy, lightweight bottles, and corks made from sugarcane.

The best grapes are vinified right on the estate, just a short walk from the vineyards. This allows the winemakers to precisely monitor the maturation of each plot. The cellar is equipped with small tanks for the micro-vinification of individual parcels. They use wood aging sparingly to allow the wines’ natural qualities to shine through. The final product is also bottled directly at the winery.

We are talking about a family, originally from Veneto managing this beautiful estate in Puglia which includes a skilfully renovated farmhouse and many hectares of land. Among the woods, olive trees and vineyards. The Rossi-Chauvenets acquire a reality full of history. The farm, located in Manduria, was founded in 1881 and for centuries belonged to the Schiavoni family. It seems that the origin of Primitivo in the Mandurian land started precisely from Cuturi. Don Tommaso Schiavoni Tafuri married Countess Bianca Sabini of Altamura who brought Primitivo cuttings to these parts. This variety adapted very well to these soils and this climate and thus the famous Apulian wine was born.

Why a biolake?
Cuturi is an oasis of untouched nature located in a natural reserve where we wanted to create this biologically filtered water basin, to allow he guests to purify their mind and body.
The biolake is not purified with chemicals, but through the phytodepuration of plants and with purification carried out by the various layers of sand and pebbles and a continuous influx of spring water, for an authentic atmosphere surrounded by nature.

There is always a way to enrich the environment and biodiversity.

Sustainability: natural sustainability must derive from a principle of economic and social sustainability, which is why Masseria Cuturi tries to be consistent in all their choices.

Alessandra Quarta: Meritorious of Italian Viticulture

The most important award at Vinitaly goes to the winemaker Alessandra Quarta for the Puglia region.

The “Angelo Betti Award, is a tribute to the creator of Vinitaly. An accolade established in 1973 in collaboration with the Regional Agricultural Policy Authorities.

Alessandra Quarta is the youngest producer to receive this prestigious recognition which is bestowed annually upon those who have significantly contributed to the promotion and enhancement of the viticultural culture in their region.

The Cangrande Medal, the most important award in the wine industry, was presented this year for Puglia to Alessandra Quarta by the Italian Minister Lollobrigida, along with the President and CEO of Veronafiere.

“A young producer who immediately participated in the innovation of the family business, taking it to highly performing levels with her renewed, young and inclusive leadership, attention to agricultural policies and sustainability, and the development of social projects.
By working on experimentation, she initiated research projects with the University of Milan, the Faculty of Agriculture, and the University of Salento.
These are our young people who bring innovation and look to the future!” enthusiastically commented Paolo Massobrio, the ceremony’s presenter.

Alessandra Quarta’s name representing the Puglia region was suggested by the Regional Agricultural Minister of Puglia, Donato Pentassuglia, consulting the representatives of the regional association ‘Women of Wine’. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of them for their appreciation, trust, and foresight.
