Tastingnote: “Bright ruby red colour. Rich, open nose with nuances of ripe red fruit, black cherry, some leather, followed by sweet spices. Gripy in the attack and course, with rich tannins and fine earthy tones. The wine is complex, with currently still a somewhat noticeable use of wood. A classic.”

This wine perfectly fits to typical Tuscan dishes, like Florentine steaks, roasts, game and mature cheeses.

Grape varieties: 90% Prugnolo Gentile and 10% Merlot

Colour: ruby red tending towards garnet

Nose: Intense, complex, delicate, with hints of violet, morello cherry, ripe plum, red berries, leather and spices

Palate: dry, with velvety tannins, sapid, balanced, elegant, with a persistent and vibrant finish

Tastingnote: “Dark ruby red in colour. On the nose, ripe raspberry, strawberry, plus a touch of savouriness: fragrant and inviting. On the palate juicy, crisp, with great cherry fruit. With tannins that are compact and still a bit young, it has medium weight and drinks well.”

Gracciano della Seta, between fairytale and reality:

The Gracciano Estate is one of the oldest wineries in the Montepulciano region.

The winery covers roughly 70 hectares of which 20 are vineyards. The vines grow on the clay and silty soil of the Gracciano hills, one of the oldest and most prestigious crus of Montepulciano.

The vineyards planted on this rich and fertile soil produce some of the best Italian wines. The small medieval hamlets reflect the colours of the earth and transport us into a world of sensations, tastes, smells, culture and tradition that seems to hover between fairytale and reality.

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano:

The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is one of the oldest and most prestigious Tuscan wines: it comes from a clone of the Sangiovese variety which in Montepulciano is called Prugnolo Gentile, because of its characteristic plum bouquet.
The special link between Sangiovese and the terroir, going back to ancient times, as well as the rich sand and clay soil, create the ideal conditions for producing full-bodied, aromatic wines with delicate tannins.
Since 1980, the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a “vino a denominazione di origine controllata (DOCG)” (controlled and guaranteed designation of origin), which corresponds to the highest recognition on the Italian wine market.

New vineyard for Gracciano

New vineyard for Tenuta di Gracciano della Seta

Tenuta di Gracciano della Seta recently bought a new vineyard, increasing the total vineyard extension to 20.58 hectares now.

It has a south-east exposure and an altitude of 290 meters above sea level. It is characterized by the same soil type (silt-clay) as the vineyards that surround the Gracciano della Seta winery.

The picture below shows the location of the new acquisition:

AREA: The area is particularly suitable for growing grape vines. The prugnolo gentile variety reveals its full potential through a slow and complete ageing process, helped by good ventilation, the fluctuation between day and night temperatures and excellent exposure. Late frosts and hailstorms are rare in the area.

The vineyard of Nobile di Montepulciano is planted with Sangiovese, 50% planted in 2018 and 50% in 2001.

WINES: The beautiful grapes growing here results in great wines, like the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva, the Rosso di Montepulciano (organic) , the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano (organic) or the Rosato Toscana. Starting from the 2018 harvest, all the Gracciano della Seta wines are certified as organic. The estate’s wines can be considered traditional, they are suitable for ageing, but also pleasant to drink when they are young.
