Vino Nobile di Montepulciano:

The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is one of the oldest and most prestigious Tuscan wines: it comes from a clone of the Sangiovese variety which in Montepulciano is called Prugnolo Gentile, because of its characteristic plum bouquet.
The special link between Sangiovese and the terroir, going back to ancient times, as well as the rich sand and clay soil, create the ideal conditions for producing full-bodied, aromatic wines with delicate tannins.
Since 1980, the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a “vino a denominazione di origine controllata (DOCG)” (controlled and guaranteed designation of origin), which corresponds to the highest recognition on the Italian wine market.

Vineyards:

The vineyards planted on rich and fertile soil produce some of the best Italian wines.

The small medieval hamlets reflect the colours of the earth and transport us into a world of sensations, tastes, smells, culture and tradition that seems to hover between fairytale and reality.

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva:

An elegant and harmonious body with delicate, autumnal notes, that evolves and matures for up to 30 years.

Ageing:

24 months: the first 12 months in 3,5 and 5 hl French oak tonneaux and the remaining months in 25 hl Slavonian oak casks

Dry, with velvety tannins, sapid, balanced, elegant, with a persistent and vibrant finish

Tastingnote:

Clear ruby with a slight purple tinge. Shows very clear and balanced with dark cherries, mulberry, saffron and dark chocolate in the background. Juicy and salty on the palate, shows a lot of grippy tannin that opens in many layers. Salty, very good flow, reverberating with a long finish.

Tastingnote:

Very dense, dark ruby, black core. Opens with notes of malt and dark bread crust, dried plums and pickled cherries in the background. Opens nicely on the palate, then displays ripe fruit notes, finely-meshed tannins with good tension, lots of juicy fruit on the finish, still seems very young.

NIZZA DOCG

Nizza Docg is produced entirely from Barbera grapes in a restricted area that includes 18 municipalities around Nizza Monferrato. A production disciplinary has set very strict constraints, to maintain high quality standards of grapes and wines.

Cascina Garitina is founded in 1900 and is a family-run farm, now in its fourth generation with Gianluca Morino, the current owner, supported by Pasquale, Alessandra, Gaia and Veronica. The name of the company is due to the great-grandmother Margherita, whose diminutive “Margheritina” in dialect is precisely Garitina; she started the business back in 1900 then continued by her grandfather Giovanni and her parents Pasquale and Assunta. The activity of the farm is oriented towards the enhancement of Barbera, the vine that extends over most of their vineyards, and to which the land with the best exposures are reserved. In particular, the oldest vineyards are dedicated to the production of Nizza docg. The vineyards are located in the heart of Alto Monferrato, in the southern sector of Nizza DOCG and are divided between 85% Barbera and the remaining 15% between Brachetto, Dolcetto, Pinot Nero, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Icardi: Barolo Riserva Serra

Azienda Agricola Icardi recently added a new wine to their portfolio: the Barolo Riserva SERRA DOCG 2015.

BAROLO RISERVA SERRA DOCG 2015

Vineyard exposure: west

Grape variety: Nebbiolo

Soil composition: alternation of white marl and sand layers.

Vines density: about 4200 vines per hectare.

Vine breeding: Gouyot.

Harvest: beginning of October.

Vinification: after pressing and destemming of the bunches, the must ferment in maceration with the skins at a controlled temperature with frequent pumping over, to ensure the right extraction of color and tannins. Maceration lasts from 12 to 15 days.

Aging: the wine matures in big barrels of 5000 liters for about 24 months.

Color: ruby red, brilliant, with orange reflections.

Bouquet: the wine presents a complex and ethereal bouquet with aromas of violets, red fruit jam and licorice but also spices such as pepper and vanilla.

Taste: elegant with dry and balanced tannins, with a good structure.

Pairings: it goes well with red meats, game and aged cheeses.

Icardi :

Proud farmers who have stayed true to their old traditions, keeping a strong bond with the soil.

They believe that the wine production happens in the vineyard more than in the cellar.

There is a deeply respect for the cycle of the seasons and the rhythms of nature.

For this reason they naturally follow the vineyards growing cycles and let flowers and plants grow between the grape rows.

There is no use of nitrogen fertilisers but they allow plants to naturally fixt the nitrogen in the soil.

They do not employ either herbicides or pesticides.

The fertility of their soil is imported through green manure, believing in thinning the vineyards, leaving behind only the best grapes, even when that means reducing their final production.

They allow shoots to grow freely without forcing them into place.

Their work is carried out in full respect and protection of the environment they live in and do that keeping 15 hectares of uncultivated woods to foster animals and plant biodiversity.

Silver for Zenato’s Amarone

Silver medals:

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2016

and

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG Riserva Sergio Zenato 2015

both received 92 points from Decanter.

Tastingnote:

“Attractive ripe and stewed red fruit nose and palate with crisp acidity balancing the alcohol, fine but firm tannins and oak spice.”

The jewel of Zenato’s production:

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is the jewel of Zenato’s production. This wine is made from a selection of top grapes from Valpolicella Classica grown in Sant’Ambrogio township (Corvina, Rondinella, Oseleta, and Croatina).

The grapes are dried for 4 months and crushing is not carried out until January. Slow fermentation with skin contact follows and then the wine is aged for 36 months in large format Slavonian casks.

It is then aged in bottle before being released.

This is a majestic wine, intense, and ethereal, with notes of bay leaf and distillate cured cherries.

The impressive balance between all its components makes it ideal for longterm ageing.

Tastingnote:

“Baked and dried red fruit on the nose with wood smoke and mushroom. Palate is open and generous. Huge potential for ageing.”

Produced only in top vintages:

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG Riserva Sergio Zenato is produced only in top vintages. This great wine is made from a selection of Corvina and Rondinella grapes grown in the oldest vineyards in the township of Sant’Ambrogio in Valpolicella’s “classic” zone.

Following vinification, it undergoes long-term aging for at least 4 years in Slavonian oak casks.

It represents the very identity of the winery and its legacy throughout the world – a wine that can age and be enjoyed for more than 20 years.

With luminous and dense color, elegant complexity, and a wonderful touch of spice, it’s a wholehearted expression of the land where it is made.
