Grapes: 60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon

This wine is made from grapes from selected wineries in the DOC area of the Euganean Hills. The grapes are left to ripen until the optimum harvesting time while checking their condition, sugar content and other important substances. Then the vinification process highlights the characteristics of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon through a prolonged contact between the must and the skins at a controlled temperature so that all substances can be fully released. After fermentation, the wine is stored in fine oak barrels for 15-18 months so that it can fully age and acquire fragrances and smoothness. Maturation is completed in bottles to give the wine an excellent taste.

Cantina Colli Euganei is situated in the heart of the Veneto region, in the middle of an area that has been dedicated to vine and olive tree growing since ancient times. Today, it is acknowledged by the latest regulations of 2010 as a DOC and DOCG area…
The grapes are grown on the farms of the municipalities of Vo’, Rovolon, Torreglia, Galzignano Terme, Lozzo Atestino, Cinto Euganeo, Arquà Petrarca, Este, Baone, comprising 700 hectares of rows of vines and providing an opportunity to best enhance the character of various wines: from fragrant white wines sweetened by the sun to more intense velvety red wines.
The northern slopes give rise to Serprino wines with their young and bubbly character, enriched with hints of flowers and fruit. The areas most exposed to the sun highlight the balanced sweetness of Fior d’Arancio DOCG, whereas the soils to the south provide full-bodied and intense red wines.
This varied morphological landscape, offering soils with different nutrients, is the perfect habitat for highly prestigious native grape varieties such as Serprina, Moscato Giallo, Moscato Bianco and Pinella, as well as international varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.

Unesco status for Colli Euganei

The ‘Colli Euganei’ is a distinctive landscape and produces distinctive wines. Historians believe that wine has been made in the Euganean hills since prehistoric times. But the story starts even earlier, when the region was still a seabed, forming what would become later a layer of limestone and calcareous soils.

A perfect terroir for growing vines. There are over 80 volcanic hills in this area within 200 square kilometers. Thousands of hectares of vineyards are planted in this unique and beautiful landscape. The Merlot grape is the one that is most planted, followed by Cabernet varieties.

Cantina Colli Euganei:

The presence of marine fossils in the Euganean hills were an inspiration for the Cantina Colli Euganei who used illustrations of fossils that were found in the region, for a part of their labels.

Now these labels adorn the red wines Merlot, Cabernet and Rosso and the white wines Bianco, Pinot Bianco and Pinot Grigio.

The white wines also share the volcanic character of the area, showing structure, texture and a good acidity. The volcanic soils give the wines a mineral note.

Unesco List of World Biodiversity Reserves

The Euganean hills recently (June 2024) have been included in the Unesco List of World Biodiversity Reserves, exemplary places where economic, social and cultural development benefits from respect for the ecosystem and biodiversity .

This recognition will help to make the beautiful wines more and more known to the world.

The president of the Consorzio Tutela Colli Euganei, Gianluca Carraro concludes: “Our vineyards cover a considerable area (…) of more than 3000 hectares, and contribute to the protection and preservation of the land. (…) Producers engage in water, forest and soil management, a vital role in light of the climate changes that are evident.

Palazzo del Principe Cabernet Sauvignon DOC 2017: 88 points

Grape variety: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Aroma: Refined and fruity fragrances of wild berries such as blackcurrants and blackberries.

Flavour: A full and round taste with an elegant body and a persisent aftertaste.

Serving temperature: before opening, bring the wine to a temperatur of 18-20°C

Notte di Galileo Riserva DOC 2017: 89 points

Grape variety: 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon

Aroma: With hints of spice and vanilla. Clear sensations of ripe red fruit.

Flavour: Intense and full-bodied. Smooth and embracing with an excellent persistent aftertaste.

Serving temperature: before opening, bring the wine to a temperature of 16-18°C and then pour it in a Decanter.

Rialto Merlot DOC 2018: 91 points

Grape variety: 100% Merlot

Aroma: Fruity fragrance

Flavour: Smooth and full-bodied, with a persistent and elegant finish
