The itinerary is designed with stops nestled between the gentle hills that embrace the villages of Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci.

This path reveals the dedication of local businesses to ancient traditions, their love for the land, their commitment to sustainability, and a deep respect for the rhythms dictated by nature.

This year the 5 stages of the event are:

Tenuta Campo al Signore: the first tasting will be at Tenuta Campo al Signore, at the Belvedere Eugenio Curiel. The initial tasting will let you savor a wine that reflects the tradition and innovation of the area.
Tasting: Cabrio IGT

Antico Frantoio di Segalari: the second stop will be at Antico Frantoio di Segalari, located in the hills of Castagneto Carducci. Here, the land plays a fundamental role in producing one of the best extra virgin olive oils in Italy. The oil tasting offers an experience that deeply connects the land and its history.
Tasting: Essenza della Collina – Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Mulini di Segalari: the third stop will be at Mulini di Segalari, located on the first coastal hills, at an altitude of 90-120 meters above sea level. This is a pristine, wild place characterized by the presence of woods and the dynamic force of a stream that flows along the property.
Tasting: Ai Confini del Bosco – DOC Bolgheri Rosso 2022 and Un po’ più Su del Mare – DOC Bolgheri Vermentino 2024

Poggio al Grillo: the fourth tasting will take place at Poggio al Grillo. Here, you can taste authentic wines, enriched by the aromas of a pristine environment. Walking among the vineyards of Poggio al Grillo means getting in tune with the land and rediscovering the authenticity of its flavors.
Tasting: Rosatico – IGT Costa Toscana Rosato and Guado delle Casaline – Bolgheri Rosso DOC

Podere il Castellaccio: the fifth and final stop will be at Podere Il Castellaccio, with fifteen hectares divided between vineyards, olive groves, and woods. This company represents dedication and love for the land. The tastings here offer an authentic experience, capturing the essence and emotion of the area.

New DOC Bolgheri regulations

In 1994 the first DOC regulations for Bolgheri red wines became approved. Before this DOC was created, the “Super Tuscans” from the area were sold under the designations Vino da tavola or IGT Toscana.

The sub-zone Sassicaia has its own appellation declaration, with up to 85% of Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc. Created as a subzone of the Bolgheri DOC in 1994 and established as a separate DOC in 2013.

The white wine grape that is most often used in Bolgheri Bianco is the Vermentino, which may account for up to 70% of the wine.

To label the wine as Bolgheri DOC is allowed to include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc (from 0 to 100%) Syrah and Sangiovese (from 0 to 50%) and Petit Verdot or other French varieties (from 0 to 30%).

The wine can be released 1 year after the harvest or can be aged 2 years (one of the two years must be in oak) to get classified as Bolgheri DOC Superiore.

First modification:

An update of the wine regulation has been approved by the Consorzio DOC Bolgheri and has come into effect in the meanwhile. The first modification is related to the base ampelographic of Bolgheri DOC white, which will give more space to the production of Viogner, Sauvignon Blanc and Vermentino.

Second modification:

The second modification concerns the labeling. All DOC Bolgheri wines have the word ‘Toscana’ on the back of the label, that is obliged. But from now on it will be up to the producers to add this word as well on the frontlabel.

In Bolgheri there are 3 types of DOC red wines: DOC Bolgheri Rosso, DOC Bolgheri Rosso Superiore, DOC Bolgheri Sassicaia + there are 3 additional DOC: DOC Rosato (1x) and DOC Bianco (2x)

The ‘Consorzio per la Tutela dei Vini DOC Bolgheri e DOC Bolgheri Sassicaia’ was founded in January 1995, shortly after the issuance of regulations that were governing the production of red wine in 1994.

This consortium is the officially recognized consortium by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Forestry Policies and Tourism for promotion, protection and the management of Bolgheri DOC and Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC wine appellations.

This summer’s general census defined the current state of the 65 member’s vineyards of the terroir of Bolgheri and Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC vineyards. This represents > 97% of the 1359 DOC hectares.
