New awards for Cantina LaSelva

The Guida Bio assigned 3 Certificati di Eccellenza 2023 to Cantina LaSelva‘s Morellino 2021, Morellino Riserva Colli dell’Uccellina 2019 and Rosso Toscano 2021.

Morellino di Scansano 2021

Harmonic, elegant wine characterised by notes of red berries and spices. Intense, enveloping structure like Maremma.

Grape variety
90% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot

Flavour and aroma
Ruby red. Elegant and spicy with fresh notes of red berries. In the mouth it is soft, persistent and fresh at the finish.

Pairings
Pasta dishes with red sauces and meat sauce, red meat, spicy dishes, eggs.

Vinification
The grapes from our best vineyards registered as Morellino DOCG are processed in a very traditional manner: the bunches are destemmed, pressed and fermented in steel tanks for two weeks at a controlled temperature of 26°C. Ageing for 3 months in steel tanks, after blending the wine continues its refinement for another 3 months in steel tanks and at least one month in the bottle.

Morellino di Scansano Riserva Colli dell’Uccellina 2019

This Morellino di Scansano, one of our region’s most extraordinary wines, comes from our vineyard in Uccellina Park. An elegant, compact and full-bodied wine with pleasantly fruity and spicy notes.

Grape variety
85% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot

Flavour and aroma
Ruby red. Fresh notes of red fruits and blackcurrant, finished with complex spice. The palate has a nice articulation from which emerges a lively fruitiness, pleasant tannins and balanced acidity. Good persistence.

Pairings
Game, red meat, aged cheeses.

Vinification
The grapes are harvested when they achieve optimal ripeness and vinified separately in small stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. When fermentation is completed, the Sangiovese is left in contact with the skins for another 10 days, while the Merlot is placed directly into new French oak barriques. At the end of maceration, the Sangiovese is put into French oak tonneuax for 12 months. During maturation the wines are racked twice and combined only shortly before bottling.

Rosso Toscana Privo 2021

A sulphite-free wine that’s the fruit of our passion, which expresses the purity of Maremma and the boldness of our philosophy. Strong, complex structure with a persistent, spicy finish.

Grape variety
Sangiovese, Alicante

Flavour and aroma
It is a wine where the fresh, fruity aspect of the grapes prevails, with good body and pleasant persistence. The nose has hints of blackberry, cherry and red berries.

Pairings
Pasta dishes with red sauces and meat sauce, red meat, spicy dishes, eggs.

Vinification
After careful sorting, the grapes are destemmed, crushed and left to ferment for about ten days in small steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Once fermentation is complete, the wine is decanted and left to rest until malolactic conversion is completed. It is then decanted once more and left to rest in the tank until bottling.During each stage of processing the wine is protected from contact with the air and no sulphites or other antioxidants are added.

Falstaff Barbera Trophy: Icardi

Icardi got 91 points for their wine Tabaren Barbera d’Asti 2020, at Falstaff’s Barbera Trophy.

Tabaren comes from the French word ‘Tabarin’ . This was a venue used for theatre, plays, art and dancing. ‘We are all better dancers after a couple of wines’ can be read at the technical sheet.

Claudio and Mariagrazia Icardi are wineproducers in the region Piemonte and manage the company in their father’s footsteps.

The winery is located in Castiglione Tinella, within the province of Cuneo, between the lower Langhe and the Monferrato region.

Claudio and Mariagrazia are proud farmers who have stayed true to their old traditions. Keeping a strong bond with the soil.

They say that the wine production happens in the vineyard, more than in the cellar.

There is a very deep respect for the cycle of the seasons and also for the rhythms of nature.

At Icardi they naturally follow the vineyards growing cycles and let flowers and plants grow between the grape rows.

There is no use of nitrogen fertilisers. They allow plants to naturally fixt the nitrogen in the soil.

They do not employ either herbicides or pesticides.

The fertility of their soil is imported through green manure, believing in thinning the vineyards, leaving behind only the best grapes, even when that means reducing their final production.

They allow shoots to grow freely without forcing them into place.

Their work is carried out in full respect and protection of the environment they live in. They do that keeping 15 hectares of uncultivated woods to foster animals and plant biodiversity.

Paltrinieri proudly presents their first organic certified Sorbara

The Lambrusco Sorbara Sant Agata from Cantina Paltrinieri is certified organic now !

Sant’Agata, dedicated to the patroness of Sorbara, was Paltrinieri’s first Sorbara and from now on it is as well their first organic Sorbara.

Some technical data:

Grapes: Lambrusco Sorbara and Lambrusco Salamino

Appearance: light ruby red, with fine perlage

Nose: intense and elegant notes of wild berries, and a characteristic scent of violet

Palate: dry, with a pleasant and refreshing acidity

Pairing: excellent as an aperitif and with cold cuts (Prosciutto di Parma, coppa) but also with pizza and fried foods or savoury pasta dishes and red meats.

2018: First organic vintage for Gracciano della Seta Vino Nobile

GREEN LEAF ON VINO NOBILE 2018

After the Rosso di Montepulciano and Rosè even Nobile obtained the organic certification.

Gracciano della seta Estate has started in 2015 a conversion to organic farming methods. After three years of conversion, all the wines form vintage 2018 are organically certified. That means a lower environmental impact in the vineyard through the exclusive use of natural pesticides assisted with the use of living organisms antagonists of parasites. In the cellar, on the other hand, with a lower use of sulfur dioxide on the wine.

We have made this decision because we are convinced it is the right decision to go, and also because we belive that our italian and international customers appreciate more and more the organic products.
