Zenato’s Lugana DOC Riserva Sergio Zenato 2020 got 92 points from the Wine Spectator.

“A toasty white, with a rich range of pear tart, quince paste, toasted almond and lemon meringue flavors, which are well-defined and enlivened by sleek acidity and salty minerality. Medium- to full-bodied, with a long, mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2028.”

LUGANA:

The Lugana Riserva is the fruit of Zenato’s family genuine passion and a reflection of their history in the appellation. The wine has a light brilliant gold in colour, and delives intense multi-faceted aromas on the nose, with floral and citrus notes, spices, white plum and vanilla. An ideal white wine for aging.

Zenato’s Amarone Classico DOCG 2018 got 92 points from the Wine Spectator.

Tastingnote:

“A harmonious version, round and medium-to full-bodied, with fine tannins enmeshed with a fragrant mix of steeped cherry and strawberry, tea rose and tea leaf, mineral and spice flavors. Juicy finish. Corvina, Rondinella, Oseleta and Croatina. Drink now through 2028.”

AMARONE:

The Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG is the jewel of Zenato’s wine production, made from a selection of Top Grapes from Valpolicella Classica grown in the township Sant’Ambrogio.

The grapes (Corvina, Rondinella, Oseleta and Croatina) are dried for 4 months and crushing is not carried out until January. Slow fermentation with skin contact follows and then the wine is aged for 36 months in large-format Slavonian casks. It is aged then in the bottle before being released. The Amarone is a majestic wine, ethereal and intense with notes of distillate -cured cherries and notes of bay leaf. It is an ideal wine for long-term aging.

New awards for Cantina LaSelva

The Guida Bio assigned 3 Certificati di Eccellenza 2023 to Cantina LaSelva‘s Morellino 2021, Morellino Riserva Colli dell’Uccellina 2019 and Rosso Toscano 2021.

Morellino di Scansano 2021

Harmonic, elegant wine characterised by notes of red berries and spices. Intense, enveloping structure like Maremma.

Grape variety
90% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot

Flavour and aroma
Ruby red. Elegant and spicy with fresh notes of red berries. In the mouth it is soft, persistent and fresh at the finish.

Pairings
Pasta dishes with red sauces and meat sauce, red meat, spicy dishes, eggs.

Vinification
The grapes from our best vineyards registered as Morellino DOCG are processed in a very traditional manner: the bunches are destemmed, pressed and fermented in steel tanks for two weeks at a controlled temperature of 26°C. Ageing for 3 months in steel tanks, after blending the wine continues its refinement for another 3 months in steel tanks and at least one month in the bottle.

Morellino di Scansano Riserva Colli dell’Uccellina 2019

This Morellino di Scansano, one of our region’s most extraordinary wines, comes from our vineyard in Uccellina Park. An elegant, compact and full-bodied wine with pleasantly fruity and spicy notes.

Grape variety
85% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot

Flavour and aroma
Ruby red. Fresh notes of red fruits and blackcurrant, finished with complex spice. The palate has a nice articulation from which emerges a lively fruitiness, pleasant tannins and balanced acidity. Good persistence.

Pairings
Game, red meat, aged cheeses.

Vinification
The grapes are harvested when they achieve optimal ripeness and vinified separately in small stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. When fermentation is completed, the Sangiovese is left in contact with the skins for another 10 days, while the Merlot is placed directly into new French oak barriques. At the end of maceration, the Sangiovese is put into French oak tonneuax for 12 months. During maturation the wines are racked twice and combined only shortly before bottling.

Rosso Toscana Privo 2021

A sulphite-free wine that’s the fruit of our passion, which expresses the purity of Maremma and the boldness of our philosophy. Strong, complex structure with a persistent, spicy finish.

Grape variety
Sangiovese, Alicante

Flavour and aroma
It is a wine where the fresh, fruity aspect of the grapes prevails, with good body and pleasant persistence. The nose has hints of blackberry, cherry and red berries.

Pairings
Pasta dishes with red sauces and meat sauce, red meat, spicy dishes, eggs.

Vinification
After careful sorting, the grapes are destemmed, crushed and left to ferment for about ten days in small steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Once fermentation is complete, the wine is decanted and left to rest until malolactic conversion is completed. It is then decanted once more and left to rest in the tank until bottling.During each stage of processing the wine is protected from contact with the air and no sulphites or other antioxidants are added.

Tastingnote: “Bright ruby red colour. Rich, open nose with nuances of ripe red fruit, black cherry, some leather, followed by sweet spices. Gripy in the attack and course, with rich tannins and fine earthy tones. The wine is complex, with currently still a somewhat noticeable use of wood. A classic.”

This wine perfectly fits to typical Tuscan dishes, like Florentine steaks, roasts, game and mature cheeses.

Tastingnote: “Dark ruby red in colour. On the nose, ripe raspberry, strawberry, plus a touch of savouriness: fragrant and inviting. On the palate juicy, crisp, with great cherry fruit. With tannins that are compact and still a bit young, it has medium weight and drinks well.”

Serving suggestion: This wine is because of its freshness very suitable for all types of dishes. It goes very well with first courses, charcuterie, semi-aged cheeses but also with certain meals with fish.

Notte di Galileo Riserva Colli Euganei 2019 is tasted by Kiem Othmar, Staffler Simon and in their tastingnote is written :

“Bright ruby with a slight garnet sheen. Opens with pronounced savoury notes of ivy leaf and cardamom, with hints of cassis behind. Velvety on the attack and course; opens with hearty, grippy tannins and has good drive on the finish. “

Colli Euganei DOC Riserva Notte di Galileo

Serving suggestions: This wine perfectly suits to red meat and mature cheeses.

Flavour: Intense and full-bodied. Smooth and embracing with an excellent persistent aftertaste.

Aroma: Fully developed and intense with hints of spice and vanilla. Clear sensations of ripe red fruit.

Grape varieties: Merlot 60% and Cabernet Sauvignon 40%

Soil type: calcareous, rich in fossils, volcanic in origin

Training system: Cordon spur, Guyot

Serving temperature: before opening a bottle, gradually bring it to a temperature of 16-18°C, and then pour it into a decanter.

Today, as a cooperative, the Cantina Colli Euganei brings together about 680 winemakers, spread over the protected area of the Euganean Hills Nature Reserve.

It has taken various geological periods for the Euganean Hills to become gentle hills capable of protecting vines and exposing them to the sun in such a favourable way while providing.

The Cantina Colli Euganei is situated in the heart of the Veneto region, in the middle of an area that has been dedicated to vine and olive tree growing since ancient times. Today, it is acknowledged by the latest regulations of 2010 as a DOC and DOCG area.

Coming from a vineyard facing south-west, this wine encapsulates all the elegance and finesse of a unique terroir such as Ogliano, where its typical features are sealed by a slightly spicy hint that develops in crescendo thanks to its longevity. ORVIETO CLASSICO SUPERIORE DOC

Orvieto is one of the very rare areas in Italy that are suited to the production of botrytized sweet wines.Indeed the city Orvieto has been famous for its sweet wines since the days of the Etruscans.
Vineyards covered by morning mists are the most favorable to develop the Botrytis Cinerea mold which enables Palazzone to make Muffa Nobile.
When the conditions are right – usually towards the end of October – they meticulously to insure the perfect condition of the Botrytis tainted grapes.

Following vinification, it undergoes long-term aging for at least 4 years in Slavonian oak casks.

Zenato’s Alanera Rosso Veronese IGT 2018 received 93 points from James Suckling

The wine Alanera Rosso Veronese IGT 2018 from Zenato Azienda Vitivinicola recently received 93 points from James Suckling:

Alanera is a tribute to Sergio Zenatos legacy of bringing understanding, wisdom and rigorous work to viticulture in Valpolicella. Alanera’s fruit hails from the Costalunga vineyard. The site’s landscape is remarkable as it overlooks the city of Verona, while partly hugging Lake Garda and being seemingly embraced by the impressive Monte Baldo and Lessinian mountain ranges.

Alanera’s Three Swallows serve as symbol to these landscape elements as well to its trio of native grapes: Corvina, Rondinella and Corvinone.

Tasting note:

“Loads of peppery and spicy, ripe cherry and berry character on the nose and palate. Hints of coffee and chocolate, too. Full to medium palate, where the spicy tannins push the fruit into a long finish. I like the full-throttle drive to this red. Will improve in the bottle.”

The wine and it’s making – what’s old is new again

By perfecting the appassimento winemaking process for generations, the Zenato family demonstrates its talent for making an ancient process new again.

Grape-drying comes naturally here, and in typical Veronese style, the appassimento process of partially drying grapes, prior to fermentations achieves the desired effect of concentrating flavors and aromas.

Alanera (“black wing”) takes its inspiration from the Veneto’s core red fine wine variety – Corvina- meaning little raven and known for its dark coloration.

Alanera calls the grapes to the stage, each bringing individual character, so that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Corvina boasts its beguiling cherry scents while Corvinone offers deeper colour and acidity, while Rondinella playing along with its partners to underscore the distinct cherre fruit profile.

Food pairing:

This wine perfectly combines with braised or roasted red meats, but also with game, robust ragus and aged Italian cheeses.
